Sharyl Attkisson of CBS News is reporting that a a man involved in the trafficking of the rifle that killed Immigration and Customs Agent Jaime Zapata has quietly been sentenced to 100 months in prison. The Zapata family was not notified. Manuel Barba pled guilty to firearm violations. You can read the plea agreement here. Also CBS News has obtained documents that show Barba was under ATF surveillance for at least six months before a rifle he trafficked was used in Zapata's murder. The news also came as a shock to Senator Chuck Grassley who wrote a letter to the Examiner which says in part;
"I've been asking for information from the departments of Justice and Homeland Security on the circumstances surrounding the murder of ICE Agent Zapata for almost a year, only to be met with resistance and more of the same stonewalling. If these revelations prove to be true, it's a sad commentary that this known trafficker was allowed to continue his illegal purchases, including trafficking the apparent weapon used in the murder of our own agent."—Sen. The Barba case was quietly prosecuted in Houston. Eric Holder failed to mention any Fast and Furious arrests when he recently testified before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. If not for Sharyl Attkisson the Zapata family and the public would never have know that sitting in a federal prison is a felon with an intimate knowledge of operation Fast and Furious and I suspect that is why this case was hushed up.
